Food and Drink
Here you will be taught Spanish using Food and drink references. Immersing yourself in real-life situations using different methods. We will explore the four cornerstones of understanding the language. Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. This will be great if you are passionate about Colombian or Latin food. You will be introduced to new vocabulary from how to order food and make traditional food using words at your level.
Give me an example:
Objective: A lesson on using simple past
Avenida Medellin method:
Let’s discuss a recent Latin food experience. Maybe what we ate, what was in it, how did we make it, where did we go? We will take sections of our conversation focussing on the past event and learn the relevant vocabulary related to you. This will be reinforced across the four pillars.
Sports
Whether you watch or play, sports can be important in our lives. For some sports, there’s no language requirement, football is football, but the culture is the important thing. We’ve all heard the over-excited football commentator with a Gooooooooaaaaaalllllllllllllll!!!!! The announcement that makes the Latin experience a little more exciting. Learn about traditional Colombian sports such as Tejo. Join us on a journey that will allow you to listen and understand what the latest sports news is and be able to take part in conversations around it.
Give me an example:
Objective: To read more.
Traditional method: You may be given a short story to help with your reading. Sometimes these stories can be unclear and irrelevant.
Avenida Medellin method:
As an example, for sports, we would use a recent news article on a baseball transfer that would cover numbers, the past, and be relevant to what your passion is
Nature
From Guatapé to Monserrate to the Amazons, Colombia is a beautiful place. If exploring nature is your passion, not just In Colombia but Angel Falls in Venezuela or Machu Picchu in Peru is your passion, learning Spanish around it will be a fantastic journey.
Give me an example:
Objective: speaking about your surroundings
Traditional method:
traditionally when we think of surroundings, we think of our immediate surroundings, your desk, chair, bed, and mirror, but what if you can already say these? How many more times can you repeat what’s in your house?
Avenida Medellin:
Home surroundings are always a good base, and you will be taught this, but we will expand. We will focus on nature’s finest places, objects, and animals within different environments. We have videos and texts/readings to help propel your Spanish. What can you see around you? An answer in this avenue would be, ”I can see a mountain with snow on top, small rocks and people hiking”
Tourism
The tourism program is pretty cool. It’s a cross between real life and culture with a splash of nature. Here you are taught all the Spanish fundamentals but use Tourism as your guide. We will explore the history of venues, local traditions, and hospitality while learning, practicing and improving your writing, speaking, reading and listening skills. Learn how to take a bus from Medellin to Bogota. What did the bus driver say? How can you write down your address? How can you book your accommodation? It’s all to explore with this program.
This is one of our most exciting avenues. It’s a dive into real-life Colombia. This avenue is more for a purpose than general learning. The program will take elements of traditional learning, but instead of learning numbers, you’ll be taught how to count your money change. In addition to where the supermarket is, you will be taught real-life phrases such as Would you like to go for a drink, maybe you’d like to tell your boss you quit, or understand your mother-in-law. From dating to business and general day-to-day activities, this is the best program for you.
Culture
History is essential in any culture if you are keen to learn about Latin history, in particular the history of Colombia, then this is the correct avenue of learning for you. Using this route, we’ll introduce you or re-introduce you to the history of Latin America, specifically Colombia. From black history to Simon Bolivar with our range of videos and our fantastic program this is sure to be an enjoyable journey to discover the past.
Give me an example:
Objective: Verbs ending with “ing”
Traditional method:
Really, the key to learning this is repetition. This isn’t. a bad thing, but beyond the lesson, the words you will learn you may not use them again. How often do you say “dipping”?, of course, good to know, but better if you are using or hearing or reading the word to keep it front of mind.
Avenida Medellin:
Repetition is still key here, but using words is more likely to stay with you. We’ll discuss the culture of the people and country deliberately using verbs that will be useful: the people are hard-working, when they are celebrating, eating with family, attending to things events, partying.
